Last week in rcis2014 (http://www.rcis-conf.com/rcis2014/) the paper related to OpeNER: Overcoming challenges in Global Software Development: The role of Brokers IEEE Eighth International Conference on Research Challenges in Information Science C. Manteli (VU), B. van Hoof (VU), H. van Vliet (VU), W. van Duinkerken (Olery) got one of the best paper awards. Congratulations!

The OpeNER hackathon has been a success

LREC2014, 26th of May. OpeNER has repeated the success from the July 2013 Amsterdam Hackathon. A broad spectrum of real end user SMEs, Micro-SMEs, Freelancers and even a few from technology giants, have built creative applications using the OpeNER webservices.

LREC2014 Iceland, OpeNER at the HLT Projects Village

Come visit the OpeNER project booth at HLT Village (LREC 2014). You can meet the OpeNER project team on May 28, 29 and 30, 2014. The aim of LREC is to provide an overview of the state-of-the-art, explore new R&D directions and emerging trends, exchange information regarding LRs and their applications, evaluation methodologies and tools, ongoing and planned activities, industrial uses and needs, requirements coming from the e-society, both with respect to policy issues and to technological and organisational ones. At LREC 2014, join thousands of colleagues and experts for three days of practical insight and networking and do not lose the opportunity to visit some of the most amazing places of the world.

An OpeNER speech proposal has been approved in the forthcoming Sentiment Analysis Symposium 2014: “Ent-it-UP: A Live Service for Sentiment Analysis on Media” Federico Neri will make a presentation of the OpeNER cloud services.

Tutorial and a hackathon in a workshop in Reykjavik, Iceland, on 26th-31st of May 2014

The OpeNER project team will present a Tutorial and a Hackathon together in a one-day workshop on multilingual Sentiment Analysis and Named Entity Resolution using the OpeNER NLP pipelines as web services in the Cloud. Deadline for 1000 words abstract submission: 9 March 2014

Success in BTO2013, the international event about online tourism

More than 7000 visitors, during 3rd and 4th December 2013 at BTO; with more than 95 scheduled meetings, more than 200 journalists and 140 bloggers. USA, Canada, Germany, Spain, France and Switzerland were within the countries represented at BTO.

OpeNER hackathon in Amsterdam (1st-2nd of July 2013)

A Hackathon took place 1st and 2nd of July. The Hackathon word stands for “Hacking Marathon”, and its purpose is to introduce some technology or software toolkit to the attendees, and let then “play” and develop ideas around it.

Technical Meeting in Pisa, January 2013

Six-month technical meeting. Topics discussed included Co-Reference and Named Entity resolution, the development of multilingual sentiment lexicons based on machine propagation through WordNets, lexicon validation, review sites and social media to use.

End User Advisory Board, 1st Workshop

The End User Advisory Board shapes the creation of OpeNER, giving feedback on users’ functional needs and evaluating the product. It consists of Tourist Boards, travel portals and industry experts, who explained their current challenges in opinion mining.
